Community Garden

Moortown Community Group led the development of a community garden in the cul-de-sac of Allerton Grove between the Moortown parade shops. The garden is now completed and Moortown in Bloom volunteers maintain the planting on a regular basis.

After a successful consultation in 2016, the funding for the garden was raised with support from the ward councillors, local businesses and private donations. The area was transformed by providing new paving, planters, seats, a community notice-board and an interpretation board.

The proposed plan for the garden is shown to the right, and this is similar to the design that was delivered.

This replaced the concrete bollards and double yellow lines that previously marked the end of Allerton Grove.

An attractive paved area is contained by the planters along the edge of the shopping parade and the end of Allerton Grove. Benches are provided to enjoy the pleasant surroundings and take a rest from visiting the businesses along the parades. A community notice board and interpretation board bring further utility to the area and help it to become the heart of Moortown. A gently curving pathway brings pedestrians through the community garden, linking the pavement of Allerton Grove to the footway along the shopping parade.

The community garden provides a place to meet and to rest, with flowers and shrubs to add colour and cheer to an otherwise drab corner of Moortown.
